Cajun Port

The beauty of the Louisiana coastal area influences this piece, its weathered fishing camps and elegant old homes providing a contrast of sleepy weathered beauty.

The main face frame is an old discarded window screen found in a “burn pile” of a local mid-wife’s house. The side framing wood is from a lobster trap washed up on the beach. The crocodile is from an old Florida souvenir ashtray given to me over 30 years ago by a wildlife metal sculptor in upstate New York. The scrimshaw ship at sail is from one of my father’s cufflinks, the mate lost years ago.

The crown is half of a tin can lid decorated with 3 old brass clock gears. The center gear revolves. An old rifle cartridge and broken wooden fishing pole pieces were added to the front.
